There's a big difference between Redding and Raleigh in terms of attitudes in business.
Here in Redding, there's a strong poverty mindset among many, including business people. They will go for less quality in their web sites and use a pre-made template. They'll even go for something that looks totally ugly and unprofessional. And businesses are failing here.
In Raleigh, people are willing to pay for good quality when it comes to their business. They want a good web site. They want good graphic designers. Yes, it's good if they can cut costs but they still want a professional look. They don't sacrifice that. Some businesses are failing there too, but not at the same rate as Redding.
It's all in the mindset. That's one reason why more businesses probably aren't in Redding. They see the mindset of those business people that are there and think "I don't want to work with them". There's too many people and not enough jobs here in Redding. Why? Because of the business people already here, and probably the people in local government as well.
Do you want Redding's economy to change? Change your mindset! I've had the mindset that I can succeed in Redding. But I've come to realize in order to succeed, I can't be the only one with that mindset.
There's a belief in Redding that no one will ever get rich while living there. I've heard it everywhere I go, including among some of the members at Bethel, and at Bethel they're trying to change this very mindset. You know what? Someone is going to break that line of thinking. Someone has to. Someone will get rich in Redding.
Right now, this is what I want to do. I want to go back to North Carolina, where I can currently find work and I can build my portfolio up to more of what I want it to be. I'll find clients that I can telecommute for eventually. Then I will go back to Redding with enough clients that I can even hire some people. I know I'm supposed to finish school at Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry.
At the same time, I hate the idea of leaving Redding. I don't want leave. But I do need to work. The mindset is such that it's even hard to get a job at McDonalds. People who didn't live in Redding and probably don't know much about this city were telling me that if I didn't get the job at McDonalds, I need to change my approach. Well guess what! There were a thousand other people applying for that same job. Even if my approach is good, there's 999 others who have approaches just as good, and maybe they only had one position open. They can't hire just everyone who had a good approach to the interview. A lot of really good candidates get screwed.
It's all because of a mindset that keeps businesses from coming to Redding in the first place.
So I am going back to North Carolina. The only thing is right now my pastor back at home won't collect the funds for me until he knows for certain that I've made up my mind. I've had a history of changing my mind on this.
I'm not giving up on Redding. As I've said before, I'll only be in Raleigh for a period of time and then I'll head bac to Redding to go back to BSSM when I'm in a better position to do so. Then I'm heading up to either Oregon or Washington because that's where I'm ultimately called, and the economy is better in Portland and Seattle than it is in Redding. Redding is a great place because of what God is doing at Bethel. But the business people of Redding need to let that influence them more so that Redding can prosper.
We've seen a measure of revival in Redding. But it's not anywhere close to the full revival that God wants to bring to this city. In the book of acts, there was no lack among any believers. We can't really say the same for any revival that's happened since then.
